Driving home, Late at night
Through little New England towns
Everyone’s lights out
They’re fast asleep
The town’s settled down
I shift to third gear, I’m slowing down
Though there is no one on the street
The sign says “30”
There’s no cops around
This isn’t tonight’s beat
I love, the air late at night
The sound of quiet. The world seems alright
An old house, one light on
Someone peering through a door
stands to watch me
driving by
shuts the light and closes the door
I wonder what this person does
How he spends his days
Where he works,
who he loves
does he ever pass my way
I love, the air late at night
The sound of quiet. The world seems alright
the stars pass overhead
the moon sits on a hill
I pass people
I don’t know
And I’m sure I never will
It’s quiet here, late at night
Not like in the day
There’s time to think
Time to breath
Quiet time to pray
I love, the air late at night
The sound of quiet. The world seems alright
